Tera, the long-running MMORPG from PUBG developer Bluehole, will shut down in June this year.
Publisher GameForge broke the news on its website, and revealed new Tera account registrations and the ability to purchase Tera Thalers (the title’s in-game currency) will be deactivated on May 31, 2022. All Tera servers will be switched off a month later on June 30, 2022, at 10am CEST.
Tera was released in South Korea in January 2011 before making its way to North American and Europe in May 2012.
GameForge said Bluehole made the decision to end development on Tera as they feel they are “no longer able to provide the satisfying content that Tera players deserve.” Bluehole now intends to focus its internal development efforts on other projects.
“Gameforge has happily hosted a great community in Tera for almost 10 years now, and would have happily served players even longer, but without the support of the developers this is not feasible,” wrote GameForge.
“All Tera channels, including the website, forum and all social media pages, will close shortly after the service has been shut down.”
Players will be able to spent their Tera Thalers, the titles in-game currency, until the servers shut down in June.
Refunds won’t be handed out for purchases that have already been made, but players who have a long-term Tera Club membership running beyond June 30 will be able to contact Payment Support after the shutdown for a partial refund.
