Asset store Sketchfab will now require a “CreatedWithAI” label on all models created by generative AI, as well as Epic Games accounts.
Via a press release, the company announced an update to its Terms of Use starting December 11, 2025. For starters, new users who sign up to the site will use Epic Games accounts. Epic acquired the store back in July 2021.
More notably, Sketchfab is also rolling out a mandate for gen AI assets. Previously, the store only required the “CreatedWithAI” label on models that were made available for sale or download. Now, this requirement applies to every AI-generated model, regardless of whether people can download it or not.
“This helps maintain transparency across the community and makes it easier to discover the type of content you’re most interested in,” reads the announcement. “New search filters— which rely upon accurate labeling of models as ‘CreatedWithAI’—will enable you to find or exclude AI-generated content.”
In addition, Sketchfab said that, in some cases, if the site detects models have been created with gen AI, it “may” assign the label to those models.
Epic Games continues to be open to generative AI
As we near closer to the end of 2025, game developers are still not warming up to generative AI, and some of them are being more worried than ever that the technology will lower the quality of games.

That being said, Epic Games has remained open to using gen AI. In 2023, CEO Tim Sweeney said that “we shouldn’t assume all generative AI is terrible or infringing.”
In 2022, Epic released an official policy regarding AI artwork on the portfolio website Artstation, which Epic owns. Back then, the company said that it believes artists “should be free to decide how their art is used, and simultaneously we don’t want to become a gatekeeper with site terms that stifle AI research and commercialization when it respects artists’ choices and copyright law.”
Returning to 2025, Epic acquired the AI-powered 3D asset tagging technology Loci back in April for an undisclosed fee. Loci’s computer models have been trained on over 1 million 3D assets, which it claims lets them “understand just about any visual style.”
Regarding the integration with the platform, Lucia Specia, director of Epic’s Machine Learning Solutions team, said that “Epic creates and hosts a huge amount of 3D content across our ecosystem, and we are always looking for ways to automate artist workflows and improve discoverability of content.”
“We look forward to working with the Loci team to develop novel AI tools to improve how our community creates and modifies 3D content across Fab, Unreal Engine, and our entire ecosystem,” Specia added at the time.

Fab refers to another asset marketplace, which was bundled into the Epic Games Launcher back in September.
