The Open Gaming Alliance has partnered with Unity to open a dedicated women’s speaker bureau, Women In Software and Entertainment Representation (WISER), in an effort to support more women speaking about the areas of their expertise at industry events.
It’s the debut initiative of the OGA’s newly-launched Creative Leadership Special Interest Group, and it notably focuses not just on encouraging women to speak but also promoting them to event organizers and “normalizing their visibility and representation at events and on industry stages.”
The goal is to build a secure database of women who are experts in fields like entertainment, technology, VR/AR and game design, one that can be accessed by approved organizations seeking expert speakers for their events.
It’s well in line with Unity’s recent efforts to support women in games; the engine company launched a free worldwide series of “women in gaming” talks back in May, and now Unity chief people officer Elizabeth Brown states in a WISER press release that “by making it easier for qualified women to contribute to the conversation, we can ensure their voices are heard and contributions recognized while continuing to lay the groundwork for the next generation of professionals to come.”
